Build Tips That Actually Work - RH2 The Journey Wiki
Twelve-plus field-tested build tips distilled from the community, covering attributes, wingspan, frames, and the decisions that separate meta builds from wasted points.
Overview
A good build is a plan, not a list of numbers. These tips come from the community's best creators and address the decisions the build creator forces on every player: attribute allocation, wingspan tradeoffs, and frame passives.
Every Position, One Video
This video builds for every position in Season 5, making it the fastest way to see how attribute priorities change between roles before you commit points.
The Wingspan Rule
Wingspan is the quietest decision with the loudest consequences. A shorter wingspan boosts shooting attributes, which is why the best point guard builds run slightly shorter arms for elite three-point ratings. A longer wingspan trades that shooting edge for contests and steals on defense.
The rule of thumb: shooters go shorter, defenders and slashers go longer. If your role scores from range, never chase wingspan defense. If your role guards the perimeter, the extra reach changes games.
Build Your Player in 4 Steps
Follow this order and every subsequent decision gets easier, because each step narrows what the next one should be. Building out of order is how players end up with 90-overall players that do nothing well.
Pick your role first
Choose position and playstyle (shooter, slasher, defender) before touching any slider.
Set vitals for the role
Height, body type, and wingspan should unlock the physicals your role needs, like speed for guards.
Max your signature stat
Push your primary scoring attribute as high as the build allows before balancing anything else.
Spend leftovers on physicals
Remaining points go to stamina and speed — the stats that multiply everything in-game.
Attribute Priorities by Role
Each role has a different attribute hierarchy. Use this table to check whether your build spends points where its playstyle actually benefits.
| Role | Primary | Secondary | Avoid |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shooter | 3PT, Mid-Range | Speed, Stamina | Heavy finishing |
| Slasher | Speed, Finishing | Ball Handle | 3PT investment |
| Two-Way | Defense, Physicals | One scoring stat | Splitting offense |
| Playmaker | Ball Handle, Passing | Speed | Post scoring |
Season 5 Creator Extras
Season 5 added layers on top of attributes that older guides never mention. These four extras are where modern builds quietly gain their edge.
Wingspan
Trades shooting for reach. New to the creator and already meta-defining.
Body Types
Body type choices unlock different physicals before attributes are even spent.
Upbringings
Your player's origin story flavor that shapes the build's identity.
Body Frames
Hidden passives change how your player feels and interacts on the court.
Quick Tips Before You Lock In
A final checklist of small decisions that compound. Run through it once before spending your points, and again before using a Reset Token.
- Save Reset Tokens for season changes, not impulse rebuilds
- Copy a proven meta build first, then personalize once you understand why it works
- Match your badge plan to your attributes — badges need thresholds to unlock
- Test builds in the park before committing to a long progression grind
- Remember frames have hidden passives the UI does not fully explain
Frequently Asked Questions
What wingspan should I use?
Shorter wingspans boost shooting, longer ones help defense and contests. Match it to whether your role shoots threes or guards the perimeter.
How many attribute points do I get?
Points are allocated across five categories in the custom creator. Exact budgets shift between seasons, so check the current creator in-game.
Are recommended builds worth using?
Yes, they are perfect starting points for new players and beat most improvised first builds.
What do body frames do?
Each frame carries hidden passives that affect how your player feels and interacts with others on the court.
Should I copy a YouTube build exactly?
Copying a proven build is the fastest way to learn what works. Personalize after you understand why each stat is there.
When should I use a Reset Token?
Save them for season changes or a complete role swap, not small attribute tweaks.
